Daylan Tran

Dayland was the youngest one out of our volunteers to join us over the summer. Although he is very shy when it comes to teaching, he was a huge help to our other volunteers when they needed an extra hand. Dayland is artistic and very creative.

"At first, I was scared, but in the end I didn't want to leave"

"Before I went on this trip, I was so ignorant for how privileged I was compared to other people in the world. But because of this trip I feel like I have grown so much, and it made me open my eyes. You know how you hear something but then don't really care because it's not happening to you? But if you face it directly your whole point of view will change, and I learned that from personal experience. I've seen people suffer and seeing people less privileged than me made me realize how lucky I was and how for granted I had taken everything up till that point. I was surrounded by great people that were very loving, and some helped me go through hard times. I began to change for the better, and once I arrived home everyone noticed. At first, I was scared, but in the end I didn't want to leave. I am very thankful for this trip for making myself better and for opening my eyes. And if I were to give one piece of advice from this trip it would be if you're faced with something new, don't fear it - embrace it. I'm excited to come next year to make new memories, and I can't wait til then"
